Philadelphia, Pa – The West Chester University women's gymnastics team traveled to the Philadelphia Convention Center on Friday night to compete in the Pink Invitational. West Chester posted a score of 193.3 to take second as they defeated Southern Connecticut State (190.725) but fell to University of Maryland who won the meet with a score of 195.150.
On the vault, West Chester posted a score of 47.6 thanks in large part to a sixth-place finish from
Meghan Chan (Northvale, N.J.) who posted a score of 9.6750. Chan also performed well on the beam as she finished tied for seventh with a score of 9.65.
West Chester managed to set a new team record on the bars with a score of 48.7.
Melanie Wojewoda (Amelia,Ohio) and Myranda Marshall (Lancaster,Pa.) performed very well on the bars as they tied for fourth in this event, as they each posted a score of 9.8.
On the balance beam, West Chester posted a score of 48.2 as
Jordan Miranda (Winchester, Ma.) competed well once again as she posted a score of 9.7750 to finish third while teammate
Sarah Boyd (St. Petersburg, Fla.) captured fifth with a score of 9.7.
Cassie Hageman (Carlisle, Pa.) also performed well as she finished seventh with a score of 9.65.
In the floor exercise, West Chester posted a score of 48.8 thanks to strong performances by
Jessica Meakim (Downingtown,Pa.) and Madison Brent (Waxhaw, N.C.) who finished tied for fourth with a score of 9.8 while Hageman and Boyd finished tied for sixth with scores 9.75.
In the all-around, Miranda competed well and captured second with a score 38.45 just barely behind the first place finisher from Maryland.
West Chester is back in action on March 3rd against William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va with that meet scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
