No. 14 West Chester Explodes For 11 Runs In Win Over Shepherd

Box Score

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – West Chester exploded for 11 runs on 14 hits to down Shepherd, 11-4, in the team's second game of the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Russell Diethrick Stadium Friday night.

West Chester (38-11) advances to the winner's bracket final against regional host Mercyhurst (38-6) Saturday night at 7 p.m. The winner of that game tomorrow night advances to the regional final on Monday afternoon.

These two last met a week ago in the PSAC semifinals and the Golden Rams scored points like they were double parked, racking up 30 runs on 34 hits in a doubleheader split. Mercyhurst took the second game, which was enough to get past the Rams and advance to the PSAC Championship Game.

Back to Friday where West Chester scored four times in the fifth inning to break a one-all tie with Shepherd (32-22). Then the Rams put up three-spots in both the seventh and eighth innings to put some distance between themselves and the Lakers.

Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) and Anthony Salomone (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) each enjoyed three-hit nights while Joe Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) hit a three-run homer and a triple to lead the offensive explosion.

Mike Cipolla (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) started the game and got the win. He lasted six innings and yielded one run on five hits while walking four and striking out four. Three more hurlers followed Cipolla to the mound.
