West Chester Diamondmen Head to Western NY For Regionals

NCAA Atlantic Regional Homepage

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University is headed to Western New York State for the 2017 NCAA Atlantic Regional as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Golden Rams open the tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. against No. 7 seeded Winston-Salem State at Russell Diethrick Stadium in Jamestown, N.Y.

Tickets to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students. An all-session pass for every day will be sold on the first day of the tournament only. Those prices are $30 for adults and $20 for senior citizens and students.

The Golden Rams, ranked 14th in the country by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA), are coming off a third-place showing at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament last weekend. West Chester dropped the first game of the tournament, but fought its way back to the semifinals, where the Rams scored 30 runs in a doubleheader against the No. 1-ranked team in the country, Mercyhurst.

West Chester players feel they are the best team in the region and confidence is riding high, despite the Rams' finish in the PSAC Tournament. Quite frankly, this regional is up for grabs with any of the seven schools in position to make a run at the title. The winner of the Atlantic Regional this weekend earns a trip to the national championships in Grand Prairie, Texas.

It will take four wins for West Chester and five others to stamp their ticket to Texas. Top-seeded Mercyhurst has a first-round bye, meaning the Lakers only need to win three games. This is the second year of the seven-team regional with the top seed receiving a bye.
