WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University and SportsFever Television announced a four-game broadcast schedule for the upcoming 2016 football season.
Â
West Chester will have three home games and one road game broadcast on SportsFever TV. Home contests against Slippery Rock (Sep. 10), Shippensburg (Oct. 8) and Millersville (Nov. 5) are part of the package while its road game at Bloomsburg (Oct. 15) is also included.
Â
"Every time we are on television, it helps us recruit," WCU football head coach Bill Zwaan said. "The one game that we really saw a spike in our recruiting was the Bloomsburg playoff game that we won up there a couple of years ago.
Â
"That game got Division II football out there, and West Chester football out there. Now, local high school kids are watching our games and that's where it impacts recruiting the most."
Â
All three home games being televised by SportsFever TV will have a 12:05 p.m. kickoff for a start time. The potential exists for more games to be broadcast on television as part of SportsFever's negotiated contracts with other schools, which appear on West Chester's 2016 schedule.
Â
Over the last three years, West Chester football has been on television 13 times, eight of those games were home contests. This year, WCU's three home games are the most regular-season home dates over the past five years. With the potential for six out of West Chester's 11 regular-season games overall appearing on TV, the Golden Rams could see more than half of their football games televised regionally and nationally on ESPN3.
Â
The remaining two home games on West Chester's regular-season schedule will be streamed live free of charge on Sports Fan Base Network (SFBN). Fans can click on the "Live Video" link on West Chester University's official web site (
www.wcupagoldenrams.com) and set up an account thru Stretch Internet. Both the Lock Haven game (Sep. 24) and Cheyney contest (Oct. 22) will appear on the schedule that pops up.
Â
West Chester opens the 2016 slate on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. The Golden Rams' home opener is one week later on Sept. 10 against Slippery Rock. That will be Hall of Fame Weekend.
