QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) homered, and
Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) went 2-for-3, but 12th-ranked West Chester University dropped its opening game of the PSAC Tournament, 3-1, to Gannon University at Veterans Park Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (47-6) saw its eight-game winning streak come to a close and falls into the loser's bracket and will face Millersville in an elimination game on Thursday at 10 a.m. Gannon (20-19) advances in the winners bracket and will take on Bloomsburg contest Thursday at 12 p.m.
Gannon scored all three runs, two of them unearned, in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. West Chester followed with Ercolani's sixth home run of the season. But, that was all the Golden Rams would get off of the Golden Knights hurler, Olivia Gumbita.
Harner (19-2) suffered the loss. She started and lasted 4.2 innings, surrendering all three runs, two of them unearned, on four hits.
Gannon scored three runs on five hits and did not commit an error. West Chester scored one run on seven hits and committed one error.
