Al-Hajj Shabazz Talking About Being Acquired By The Houston Texans

HOUSTON, Texas
- Former West Chester University defensive back, Al-Hajj Shabazz was picked up by the Houston Texans on Monday afternoon.

Shabazz, in his second year, appeared in five games for the Pittsburgh Steelers so far this fall, registering one tackle in Week 5 against the New York Jets. He also appeared in four of the last five games of the season for the Steelers, playing primarily on special teams. He did not figure statistically in any of those four contests against the Baltimore Ravens,Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.

Houston is currently 6-6 on the season and in a three-way tie for first place in the AFC South with Indianapolis and Tennessee Titans. Houston released CB Charles James on Monday to make room for Shabazz.

Shabazz was signed by the Steelers to a Reserve/Future contract on Feb. 4, 2016. He originally was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in May 2015.

The Philadelphia native, John Bartram High School, registered 152 tackles for the Golden Rams from 2011-14. He intercepted 10 passes, returning two for a touchdown. Of his 152 total tackles, 101 were solo stops. He was credited with 33 passes defensed in his college career, including 16 his senior season (2014). His junior year, Shabazz helped West Chester reach the NCAA Division II national semifinals.
