Jarel Elder Named PSAC East Offensive Player Of The Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – So., RB Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was named PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week it was announced by the conference Sunday afternoon.

Elder racked up 365 all-purpose yards in a 48-38 win over visiting Seton Hill Saturday, including three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help the Golden Rams break a 24-all tie after three.

The sophomore from Allentown, Pa., is the first weekly award winner from West Chester during the young football season.

When the dust had settled on West Chester's first win of the season, Elder had rushed for 247 yards on 25 carries and scored three times while adding 84 yards receiving on eight catches and another score. He also returned a pair of kickoffs for 34 yards. His 365 all-purpose yards is the third-best single-game effort in school history and the most since Mike Irving's 368 against Bloomsburg in 1984.

Not bad for a running back, who was making his first college start in place of the injured Brandon Monk.

Elder collected 157 of his 247 rushing yards in the fourth quarter when West Chester needed him most. Seton Hill took its only lead of the game, 38-34, with 5:29 left in the contest. Elder responded with TD runs of two yards and 51 yards, the latter on a 3rd-and-11 with just over one minute remaining in the game, to wrestle control of the game away from the upset-minded Griffins.

Elder's 247 rushing yards is the seventh-best single-game performance in school history, providing the bulk of the team's 336 rushing yards, which is ninth-best.

The Golden Rams travel to Millersville on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against the Marauders at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
