Box Score BUTLER, Pa. – West Chester University's baseball team dropped a 14-2 decision to Mercyhurst Thursday morning inside Kelly Automotive Stadium, eliminating the Golden Rams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.
The Golden Rams (26-13) found themselves in a hole early on, down 9-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Mercyhurst (33-7) moves on to the semifinals with the help of three home runs.
Andrew Gernert (Lenhartsville, Pa./Kutztown) (4-3) received the loss, after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings and hitting two batters. Lakers' Jon Klein got his eighth win of the season, after pitching eight innings and giving up only two runs on six hits while striking out seven.
Shortstop
Dylan Tice (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) went 1-for-2, hitting a double and scoring one of the two runs for West Chester. Teammate,
Matt Petrizzi (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) added a 2-for-3 day from the plate, knocking in a run and swiping second base to get a rally started.
Lakers' first baseman Hank Morrison went 3-for-5 on the day with a three-run homer, while also hitting a double and scoring a run. Austin Alonge gave the Lakers their first lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. He finished with three RBIs total and scored two runs with a double. Giancarlo Saia rounded it out going 4-for-5 with a double.
West Chester now awaits its fate to see if they are selected to take part in the NCAA Atlantic Regional
