WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Alec Werner went 7-for-15 for 189 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Gold squad to a 34-3 victory over Purple in the football team's annual spring game at John A. Farrell Stadium Saturday.

Werner also ran for a touchdown to open the scoring on Gold's first drive of the afternoon. He bulled his way over the goal line from two yards out three minutes into the contest. He then hooked up with Shannon Mayer on a 56-yard TD strike with 1:54 left in the first quarter to give Gold a 14-0 lead.

Ben Solis connected on a 25-yard field goal at 10:48 of second quarter to put Purple on the board. However, Mike Class ran the ball in from one yard out with 1:08 left in the first half to give Gold a 21-3 lead at the break.

Mark Dukes caught a 45-yard TD pass from Werner in the third quarter, before Corey Kelley returned an interception 40 yards for the final score of the game.

Mayer finished with four catches for 134 yards and his one TD for Gold. He was Werner's favorite target Saturday afternoon. James Rusenko relieved Werner and went 4-for-8 for 60 yards and one interception.

In the fourth quarter, Werner switched sides to play for Purple. He went 2-for-6 for 40 yards as a member of that team. Pat Moriarty started the game under center for Purple. He was 18-for-37 for 222 yards and one interception.

Jarel Elder, who carried the fall four times for three yards, was most effective in the receiving game. He caught seven passes for 88 yards for Purple.

Gold's defense held Purple to just 19 yards rushing for the game. Sean Steinmetz and Drew Formica led Gold with five tackles each. Kelley had two pass breakups to go along with his INT return for a score. Byron Cooper registered 2.5 tackles for a loss, including one sack.
