Philadelphia, Pa. – West Chester's Football team captured two players in senior defensive end
Andrew Cohen (Holland, Pa. / Council Rock South) and junior defensive back
Kyle Keyser (Garnet Valley, Pa. / Garnet Valley, Pa.) on the
Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Academic team in a release Thursday morning.
Cohen cumulated a 3.3 GPA, majoring in health and physical education and made his first appearance on the all-region squad, as selected by the region's sports information directors. The veteran defensive lineman tied for the most votes in the region with fellow first team selection Marcus Martin from Slippery Rock. Cohen, who was also named the PSAC Eastern Division defensive player of the year and was a national finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award, broke the conference record for career sacks with 33.5. He notched 13.5 sacks this past fall to lead the conference and rank fifth nationally. He also led the PSAC in tackles for a loss with 20. That number ranked 17th nationally as well. He is a three-time All-PSAC East selection and a two-time first team pick.
Keiser scored in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA, while majoring in finance and economics. On the field, he played in all 11 games making 23 solo tackles and assisted on nine for 32 total tackles. He also had a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble throughout the 2015-16 season.
The list included players from Division I Temple, Villanova, and Penn, and Division III institutions Rowan, Delaware Valley, Ursinus, and Widener.
