Monk And Elder Take Home PSAC Athlete Of The Week Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University senior RB Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and sophomore RB Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) were each honored by the PSAC as its Eastern Division offensive player of the week and special teams player of the week in the league's weekly football awards.

Monk rushed for 170 yards and a pair of TDs in West Chester's PSAC East-clinching win over East Stroudsburg Saturday. His last run of three yards with 2:27 left in the game salted away the contest, giving WCU a 41-27 edge. On that game-clinching drive, Monk rushed for 63 of the 77 yards that West Chester traveled to put the game away. Monk also set up the first score of the game with a 34-yard scamper down to the five-yard line. Four plays later, Camille Max caught a 1-yd pass from Moriarty. Monk then scored the first of his two TDs on a six yard run early in the second quarter to put WCU up, 14-0. Monk's 170 rushing yards marked his first 100-yard game of the 2015 campaign.

Elder returned five kickoffs for a total of 133 yards on Saturday. He had a long of 48 yards, allowing the Golden Rams to start their second possession of the second half in East Stroudsburg territory.

It marks the second time this year for both players that they were honored in the weekly awards. However, it is the first time in their respective categories. Monk was named the special teams player of the week on October 4 while Elder was the loop's offensive player of the week on Sept. 20. In all, West Chester has had six players named athlete of the week durng the fall campaign.

Monk and Elder's efforts on Saturday helped the Golden Rams clinch the Eastern Division and send West Chester to the PSAC Championship Game for the first time since 2008. West Chester will take on Slippery Rock Saturday at John A. Farrell Stadium at 12:10 p.m. The game will be televised live by SportsFEVER Television and can be seen on ESPN3 and the ESPN College Game Plan as well as most cable channels in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and South Jersey.
