George Shipp Named PSAC East Defensive Player Of The Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Defensive End George Shipp was named the PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the organization Sunday morning.

Shipp led West Chester in tackles with six, including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble while also recording a safety in the Golden Rams' 33-22 win over Bloomsburg Saturday at John A. Farrell Stadium. Shipp was part of a defense that limited the Huskies' ground game to 75 yards and just 181 yards of total offense. In all, WCU's front seven registered eight QB hurries, four sacks and pressured Bloomsburg QB Tim Kelly into throwing three interceptions.

Shipp is the fourth Golden Rams football player overall, and second defensive player, to be recognized by the conference in its weekly awards. Nydair Rouse was defensive player of the week two weeks ago for his efforts in a win over Kutztown. Brandon Monk was named the special teams player of the week as well that week. Jarel Elder was offensive player of the week back in week three of the season.

West Chester (5-3, 4-1 PSAC East) is in a three-way tie for first place in the Eastern Division standings of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference entering Week 9 of the season. The Golden Rams travel to Cheyney on Halloween for a 12 p.m. kickoff with the Wolves at O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium.
