Al-Hajj Shabazz (Philadelphia, Pa./Bartram) was selected to participate in the 2015 National Football League Player's Association (NFLPA) Collegiate Bowl Saturday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. The game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2.
The game will be held at the StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in the Greater Los Angeles area. NFL coaching legends Mike Holmgren and Mike Martz will serve as head coaches. Holmgren will coach the American Team while Martz heads up the National Team.
Shabazz will play for Mike Martz and the National Team. He is one of only eight players from a Division II school in the game. There is one Division III player in the game. The rest of the participants represent institutions at the Division I-FCS or Division I-FBS level. Wide Receivers on the American Team offense include participants from Kentucky, Texas Tech, Utah and West Virginia.
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is a premiere post-season all-star game for draft-eligible college players. The week-long schedule provides participants with a first-class professional experience while introducing them to the business of the National Football League. Founded in 2012, the annual game gives prospective NFL players the best opportunity to showcase their talents to potential emplyers and fans. In 2014, more than 140 NFL Scouts, Player Personnel Staff, GMs and Head Coaches attended the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl practices and game.
