WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Coming off perhaps the most successful campaign in school history, West Chester University's football squad was ranked 10th in the country by the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) in its preseason poll. The Golden Rams ended 2013 ranked fourth in the final rankings.
West Chester garnered 477 points to come in 10th overall in the preseason poll. Defending national champion, Northwest Missouri State is the preseason favorite to take the title again. It received 31 first-place votes for a total of 799 points. The only other first-place vote went to Henderson State (Ark.), which was picked eighth in the poll. The Golden Rams were one of three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schools in the AFCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Indiana (Pa.) came in 20th while Bloomsburg was 24th. Both of those schools appear on West Chester's 2014 schedule. East Stroudsburg, who also appears on West Chester's schedule this year, was listed among others receiving votes.
West Chester is coming off a 13-2 season in which the Rams tied for the PSAC Eastern Division title and advanced to the NCAA Division II national semifnals for the second time in school history. The Golden Rams open their 2014 schedule on Saturday, Sept. 6 at New Haven.
