Box Score QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Megan Kelly hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, handing West Chester a dramatic 2-1 victory over Gannon in an elimination game of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball tournament Friday afternoon at Veterans Park.
West Chester (36-18) advances to Friday night's elimination game at approximately 8:30 p.m. where the Golden Rams will play the winner of the Indiana (Pa.) vs. Bloomsburg contest currently going on.
A vintage pitcher's duel dominated the first six innings as West Chester's Kim Murl (18-8) and Gannon's Jen Rectenwald kept each team's bats silent for the most part. Murl singled home Kelly Anderson in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Gannon catcher Katie Dunn tied the game with a solo blast to dead center field in the top of the seventh inning for the Golden Knights' lone run. That set the stage for Kelly's heroics in the bottom half.
Murl scattered four hits and struck out four without walking a batter to pick up the win inside the circle. She retired the first seven batters she faced in the game. Meanwhile, Rectenwald was just as impressive, taking a no-hitter into the fourth inning. She yielded five hits, walking three and striking out two.
Murl was 1-for-2 at the plate with that one RBI.
