Box Score QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Kelly Anderson and Jess Schuck each hit home runs as West Chester defeated Edinboro, 10-1 in five innings, in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament opener for schools Thursday evening at Veteran's Park.
West Chester (35-17), the top seed out of the Eastern Division, has now won six of its last seven while Edinboro (17-23-1) now faces elimination with its next loss in the double-elimination format.
The Golden Rams plated 10 runs on seven hits while committing one error. The Fighting Scots scored one run on three hits and committed one error.
Anderson put West Chester on top early with a two-run home run, her first of the season, to left-center in the bottom of the first. Schuck later followed with a three-run shot, her fifth of the year, in the third. The Golden Rams scored three times in each of the first two frames and then added a four-run third to end the game early.
Anderson went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Schuck was 1-for-1 with three RBI and three runs scored. She reached base each time up.
Kim Murl (17-7) threw four innings, allowing one run on three hits, before being relieved in the fifth by Katie Erb.
West Chester advances to the winner's bracket where it will face Shippensburg, a 7-1 winner over Indiana (Pa.), in the second game of the night at approximately 9:30 p.m.
