WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Kutztown advanced to the PSAC Men's Tennis Championship Match with a 5-0 victory over host West Chester on a sunny, but windy, Thursday afternoon on WCU's South Campus.
Kutztown (13-4), ranked fifth in the latest ITA Atlantic Regional rankings, swept all three doubles matches and then picked up wins at first and third singles to close out the victory.
West Chester's Jimmy Aridas and Chaz Irwin dropped a tough match at second doubles that went to a tie-breaker. Kutztown's Rich Lichtenwalner and Ben Nace eventually prevailed, 9-8 (3). West Chester dropped the other two doubles matches, 8-1 and 8-4.
Kutztown's top singles player, Rushi Amin, was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Jared Howatt while the Bears' third singles player, Matt Maguire, was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Irwin that clinched the match.
Kutztown advances to the championship match where it will look to defend its conference team title from a year ago. The Golden Bears will also be in search of their 12th PSAC men's tennis crown overall. That championship match against Edinboro will begin at 12 p.m.
