Meet Results
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - West Chester University's Women's gymnastics cracked the 190 point plateau for the first time in school history, in a 190.575-184.525 home victory at host Ursinus Saturday afternoon.
The meet was originally scheduled to be inside Sturzebecker HSC, was moved due to the building being used as a Red Cross shelter for those still affected by last weeks' storms.
"It was just a great team effort," Coach Barb Cordova said, "we didn't have to count any falls, if we had a mistake in one event, they just picked it up so we didn't have to count anything."
Freshman
Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) broke the school record in the all-around competition,scoring a 38.525. She captured the floor exercise with a 9.800., her 9.725 was good for a tie for second on the beam, she scored a 9.675 on the vault to place runner-up, and was fifth as West Chester took the top five spots on the uneven bars with a 9.325.
Meghan Brannon (Seminole, Fla.) led the way with a 9.775 on the uneven bars, as West Chester set a new school record with 47.750 points.
Emily Seigel (Reisterstown, Md.) was second with a 9.70., followed by a 9.60 from
Alyssa Hult (Fremont, N.H.),
Melissa Prisco (Old Bridge, N.J.) Â Â swung to a 9.35, and Valentine was fifth with a 9.325 to complete the sweep of the top five spots.
The Golden Rams scored 48.275 on the Floor Exercise, Valentine paced the competition with her 9.80,
Stephanie Plaugher (Landsdale, Pa.) was the runner up with a 9.75, Seigel scored a 9.625, and
Kristin Torres (Paradise, Pa.) and Hult each scored a 9.55 to share fourth position. Â
On the beam, Valentine was second, Seigel placed fith with a 9.525, and
Cecelia Lorenzen (Windsor, Pa.) and
Lindsay Knapp (Collegeville, Pa.) tied for sixth with a score of 9.50.
Valentine was followed by
Selena Swinger (Gettysburg, Pa.), who scored a 9.550 on the vault, Prisco scored a 9.525, and Torres with a score of 9.375.
"There were a lot of alumni at the meet," Cordova said, "it was supposed to be the alumni day, and having them be there while we broke our record was really exciting, and they were all excited for us, it was really a fun day."
The next meet is on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the University of Pennsylvania, scheduled to start at 1 p.m
