West Chester Lands Four On Daktronics, Inc., All-Super Region 1 Squad

Quarterback Sean McCartney Named Offensive Player of the Year

2014 Daktronics, Inc., All-Super Region 1 Team

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University quarterback Sean McCartney (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) headlined four Golden Rams, who were all named to the 2014 Daktronics, Inc., Division II All-Super Region 1 football teams selected by the region's sports information directors.

Joining McCartney on the first team were tight end Tim Brown (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) and cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz (Philadelphia, Pa./Bartram). Sr., LB Ronell Williams (Chester, Pa./Chester) was a second-team selection. Both McCartney and Brown are making their initial appearances on the All-Super Region 1 team while Shabazz and Williams are repeat honorees.

McCartney represents the sixth quarterback in the last seven years to walk away with offensive player of the year plaudits in Super Region 1. He will advance to the national player of the year ballots while all of the first team honorees advance to the All-America ballot. The results of that ballot will be announced on Dec. 17.

McCartney leads Division II with 42 touchdown passes this season and led West Chester to an 11-2 record and to the second round of the NCAA playoffs. He is ranked among the Division II leaders in eight different offensive categories, after throwing for 3,744 yards and averaging almost 15 yards per completion. He has already been selected Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Offensive Athlete of the Year.

Tim Brown put together the most prolific single season for a tight end in school history. The 6-3, 235 lbs., target for McCartney led the Golden Rams in receptions (53), receiving yards (1,059) and touchdown receptions (17). His TD receptions rank third in Division II while his receiving yards are the most by a tight end in Division II this fall. He was previously honored as first team All-PSAC East.

Al-Hajj Shabazz was a repeat first-team selection this season. He led the Golden Rams with five interceptions and 16 passes defensed while also blocking a punt. He ranked seventh on the team in tackles with 39. His five picks are tied for 23rd in Division II this season. In his four-year career, Shabazz registered 10 interceptions and 33 passes defensed. He also made 152 total tackles, 101 of which were solo stops.

Williams, a first-team selection a year ago, was a second team pick this time around. Slowed by an injury that kept him out of three games, he still finished second on the team in tackles with 68, including five tackles for a loss, three of which were QB sacks. He was also credited with a QB hurry and one forced fumble. He ended his career third all-time in total tackles (376) and second in assisted tackles (223). He posted 26.5 tackles for a loss over the past four seasons with 10.5 sacks to his credit.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
