Brandon Monk Named PSAC East Co-Offensive Player Of The Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Jr., RB Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week, along with Shippensburg's Chris Lawshe, it was announced Sunday afternoon by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Monk rushed for a career-high 257 yards on 36 carries while scoring two touchdowns in West Chester's 35-24 win over East Stroudsburg Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium. It marked the fifth-best single-game effort in school history and was the most yards rushing by a WCU running back in a game since D'Andre Webb set the school record with 306 yards rushing against Millersville in 2008.

The honor is the first for Monk in his three-year career and the fifth for a Golden Rams player this fall. McCartney has won the award twice while defenders Al-Hajj Shabazz and Shaquil Ryder have each been named PSAC East defensive player of the week.

West Chester carved up East Stroudsburg's defense for 299 yards rushing in all and 471 yards of total offense. Monk averaged 7.1 yards per carry. WCU offensive coordinator, Bill Zwaan, Jr., called his number 36 times on Saturday - also a single-game high for the local product from Avon Grove High School.

West Chester closes out the regular-season portion of its schedule next Saturday at Indiana, Pa. The Golden Rams, currently ranked third in Super Region 1, will be looking to sew up a postseason berth in the NCAA II Playoffs for the second straight year while possibly earning a home game, or even first-round bye, in the tournament.
