DePalma Shines In First Preseason Contest With San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Former West Chester University wide receiver Dan DePalma, now a member of the San Diego Chargers, led all wideouts in the game with five catches while his 43 yards receiving was a team high in a 31-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Thursday night in the NFL preseason opener for both squads.

DePalma received the bulk of his playing time in the second quarter with the Chargers second team offense, led by veteran quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. He showed his athleticism by climbing the ladder and making nice a grab on a ball thrown high and a bit behind him that resulted in a 22-yard gain and a first down.

DePalma, who signed a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers during the spring, is in his third season in the NFL. He spent the last two years on the New York Giants practice squad, helping the Giants to victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis in 2012 by mimicking pass routes run by former Patriots' wide receiver Wes Welker in practices leading up to the big game.

DePalma and the San Diego Chargers will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m. when they visit Soldier Field in Chicago to take on the Chicago Bears. That game will be aired live on ESPN.
