LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University landed a school-record 209 student-athletes on the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Academic Honor Roll it was announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
The 16 institutions of the PSAC combined to set a new record of 2,200 scholar athletes during the 2012-13 academic year, breaking the previous mark of 2,187 set a year ago. West Chester topped its previous record of 207 student-athletes, which was also set a year ago.
In order to earn scholar-athlete recognition, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above. The 2,200 total represents 35 percent of the reported 6,307 student-athletes participating in the conference, the same percentage as a year ago and the fifth straight year the league has registered at least 30 percent.
West Chester's 209 student-athletes is the highest among PASSHE schools within the PSAC and the second highest total overall behind only Mercyhurst. In all, 38 percent of West Chester's student-athlete population made the conference academic honor roll.
