Rich Bruno Named Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Performer Of The Year; Trey Farmer Also Honored

PHILADELPHIA – West Chester University punter Rich Bruno has been named the 2013 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Performer of the Year it was announced by that organization.

Bruno is one of 24 student-athletes selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team, which also includes senior offensive lineman Trey Farmer.  The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Bruno has been a vital contributor this season for a West Chester team, which is currently 13-1 and has advanced to the national semifinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament.  Bruno has kicked 49 punts with an average of 40.8 yards per punt this season, amassing 1,998 yards with seven punts that have traveled 50 yards or more.  He had a career-long punt of 74 yards earlier in the year and has pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line 14 times.  Of the 49 punts by Bruno, only 10 have been returned for a total of 50 yards all season long.  West Chester has set a school record for victories this season and is making its second appearance in the national semifinals.

Off the field, Bruno has an equally impressive list of academic accolades.  He is majoring in Exercise Science and carries a 3.87 grade-point average.  He is a member of the Dean's List and the West Chester Athletic Director's academic honor roll. Bruno has also been named to the PSAC Academic Honor Roll and the Division 2 ADA Academic Honor Roll.

Teammate Trey Farmer, a first-team All-PSAC East selection and an All-Super Region 1 pick, was also recognized by Philly-SIDA with his naming to the academic all-area squad alongside Bruno. The mainstay at left guard is making his second straight appearance on the all-area team, following his appointment to last season's squad.

Farmer is a four-year letterwinner along the offensive line for the Golden Rams and is a big reason why senior RB Rondell White has broken 21 school records during their four years playing together. Farmer is a member of the Dean's List and the West Chester Athletic Director's academic honor roll. He has also been named to the PSAC Academic Honor Roll and the Division 2 ADA Academic Honor Roll.

The 2013 Academic All-Area football team includes players from seven different schools, with five of the seven having at least four players selected to the team.  There are also five repeat selections from a year ago.  Temple led all schools with five team members on the All-Area squad, including Ryan Alderman, John Christopher, Rob Dvoracek, Kyle Friend and Anthony Robey.  Four players each from Penn, Rowan, Villanova and Widener also made the All-Area team.  The selections from Penn were Chris Bush, Sebastian Jaskowski, Spencer Kulcsar and Ty Taylor, while Rowan was represented by Chris Alvarez, Joe Borden, Dominic Caruso and Kyle Jones.  Making the team from Villanova were Don Cherry, Kevin Gulyas, Cameron McCurry and Bill Vogel.  The selections from Widener were Colin Masterson, Mike Pacitti, Jermaine Quattlebaum and Stacey Sunnerville.  West Chester had two members on the All-Area squad, including Rich Bruno and Trey Farmer.  Cheyney was represented by Christian Sanchez.
