2010 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships - Day 2 Results
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Melinda Wentz finished third in the women's heptathlon Friday afternoon with 4,736 points, hitting an NCAA provisional time in the process to lead West Chester University at the 2010 PSAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships inside John A. Farrell Stadium.
Wentz picked up six points for West Chester, which stands in ninth place overall after the first full day of competition. Slippery Rock leads the team scoring with 54 points while East Stroudsburg is second with 49. Shippensburg is third with 46.5 points.
Wentz also placed sixth in the 100m hurdles to qualify for the finals on Saturday. She ran a 15.28 seconds.
MacKenzie Lauro nearly scored points for West Chester by placing ninth in the long jump. She leaped 17 feet, 6 3/4 inches, just missing a placewinner spot on the podium. Lauro also led off the women's 4x100m relay team that placed fifth in the prelims and qualified for the finals by posting a time of 48.58 seconds. Sam Smarkola, Brigid Gallagher and Miriam Hughes rounded out that foursome.
Competition at the PSAC Championships continues on Saturday morning with the pole vault, which was suspended due to weather in the middle of the event.
