WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester swept the singles competition and split the doubles, picking up a win at third doubles by forfeit, as the Golden Rams topped Gwynedd-Mercy, 8-1, on a balmy Tuesday afternoon at South Campus Courts.
West Chester (5-6) dropped just one set the entire match. Michael Jendzurski picked up his first college win at No. 5 singles as well, 6-2, 6-1. The Golden Rams received forfeit wins at third doubles and sixth singles, and a win at fourth singles when the Griffins’ Ryan Murray retired due to illness.
Matt Thomas played first singles and recorded a 7-5, 6-3 victory. David Goldenberg was at second singles and posted a 6-1, 1-6, 10-6 win. Alan Day was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at third singles.
Jared Morgan and Eric Trinkle defeated Goldenberg and Thomas at first doubles, 8-6, for Gwynedd-Mercy’s lone win of the afternoon. Day and Michael Sim won, 8-3, at second doubles.
West Chester hosts Bloomsburg Wednesday at South Campus Courts, along with the women’s tennis team.
