WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Derek Glaser tied for 12th individually and Tyler Canfield shaved eight strokes off his score from Sunday as host West Chester University finished fourth at the inaugural Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Collegiate Golf Invitational on a sunny and pleasant Monday morning at Penn Oaks Golf Club’s par-71 course that played to 6,644 yards.
Indiana (Pa.) won the team title with a composite score of 600. Wilmington (Del.) was second with a 614 and Clarion third with a 624. West Chester shot a 631 to place fourth. Millersville was fifth with a 636 and both Mercyhurst and Goldey-Beacom were tied for sixth with a 642. LeMoyne placed eighth with a 645, and Pace was ninth with a 667. West Chester’s other team shot a 674.
IUP’s Gavin Smith won the individual crown in a tie-breaker playoff when he birdied the first hole. Smith and Goldey-Beacom’s Michael Coppa each finished the two-day tournament with a 6-over par 148. Coppa, who was tied for ninth heading into Monday’s final round, shot a 1-over 72 for the low-round of the day to pull into a tie for first with Smith.
West Chester’s Derek Glaser was the low-round of the weekend for the Golden Rams with a 156. Canfield tied for 19th with a 158. He shot a 75 on Monday after signing for an 83 on Sunday. Danny Walck and Steve Minnick tied for 22nd with a 159 each.
Griffith Basehore, who was a member of the Golden Rams’ other team submission, finished tied for 30th with a 163.
West Chester heads to the IUP Invitational next Monday and Tuesday for its next tournament action.
