MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Shawn Smith and Leighon Johnson each registered wins for West Chester’s men’s track & field squad at the Millersville Spring Opener Saturday afternoon at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Smith captured the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 5 ¾ inches to take first in that event. Johnson won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98. Johnson finished seventh behind Smith in the long jump as well with a distance of 21-3 ¼. He also was a part of the 4x100m relay team that was runner up at Millersville and the 4x400m relay team that placed fourth.
Smith was also a part of that 4x100m relay team, along with Johnson, Josh Bacon and Matt Hauser. That foursome posted a 42.07 seconds time.
Tyler Real placed fourth in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 15.68 seconds. He also was eighth in the 400m intermediate hurdles with a clocking of 57.25.
Craig Espenshade, who ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay that clocked a time of 3:19.31, placed fifth individually in the 400m with a time of 49.00. Kyle Perry, Johnson and Hauser made of the other three legs of that relay team.
In addition to running both relays, senior Matt Hauser finished fourth in the 200m behind Johnson with a time of 22.32.
Kyle Miller placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing 14-1 ¼.
