Five First-Place Finishes Highlight Day Two Of The WCU Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s men track and field squad tallied five event winners in Day Two of the WCU Invitational meet at John A. Farrell Stadium on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Craig Espenshade won the 800m in a time of 1 minute, 56.68 seconds. Espenshade’s time qualified him for next month’s PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Jacob Perry finished behind Espensahde in third place with a time of 1:58.88. Matt Houser was runner-up in the 400m with a time of 49.85.

Tyler Real won the 400m hurdles in a time of 55.71. Real finished second in the 110m hurdles a time of 15.27. Eric Atkins finished fifth 16.37 and Dan Smith was seventh 16.67. Mike Malejko was fourth in the 3000m steeplechase (10:22.7).

Andrew Furst finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 10 ¾ inches. Leighon Johnson captured the long jump with a leap of 22-10. Shawn Smith finished third with a jump of 22-1. Josh Bacon finished third in triple jump with a leap of  42-8 ¼.

Smith was also a part of that 4x100m relay team, along with Johnson, Bacon and Hauser. That foursome posted a 42.52 second time, good enough for a first-place finish.

The 4x400m relay clocked a time of 3:19.70 placing first overall as well. The relay consisted of Johnson, Perry, Houser, and Espenshade.
