LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior forward Janelle Garber was named second team All-PSAC East in a vote of the league’s head coaches Tuesday afternoon. It marks the third straight year that Garber has been honored on the postseason all-league team.
Shippensburg's Lauren Beckley, who finished her career as the conference’s all-time leading scorer, was named the PSAC East athlete of the year for the second straight season while Kristina Freeman, the leading scorer on Gannon's undefeated and No. 1 nationally ranked team was named the PSAC West athlete of the year.
For the second straight campaign, the PSAC East freshman of the year award goes to a Bloomsburg rookie as Dana Wieller was this year's honoree, following teammate Kelsey Gallagher a year ago. Indiana (Pa.)'s Sarah Pastorek was the PSAC West freshman of the year. The two coach of the year award winners came from the two divisional champions as Millersville's Mary Fleig and Gannon's Cleve Wright were the East and West winners, respectively.
Garber became the 14th player in West Chester University history to reach 1,000 career points earlier in the season. She led the team in scoring this winter, averaging 11.0 points per game, while also finishing third in rebounding with 5.5 rebounds per contest. She also tied for second on the team with 35 blocks.
Garber was 28th in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in scoring average and ranked sixth in the loop with a .488 field-goal percentage. Her 1.2 blocked shots per game also tied for ninth in the PSAC.
Garber was a second team All-PSAC East pick her sophomore year (2008) and a first team selection last winter (2009). She ends her stellar career 11th all-time at WCU in scoring with 1,092 career points. She also ranks ninth in career rebounds (661) and third in career blocked shots (116).
West Chester (19-10) finished fourth in the Eastern Division and upset No. 23 Millersville in the first round of the conference tournament to reach the semifinals for the third straight season where the Golden Rams fell, 81-63, at the hands of California (Pa.) last Friday.
