WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Sara Waltman scored a career-high three trys as West Chester University shut out visiting James Madison University, 55-0, in a non-league women's rugby contest on a sunny, but chilly, Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (6-5) bounced back from its loss to Virginia one week ago with another impressive showing.
Waltman ran off a 30-meter try in the 19th minute that put West Chester up 17-0. She then scored 10 minutes later on a 15-meter run to give the hosts a 24-0 advantage after Megan Lamm hit the conversion. Her final try was a 10-meter run in the second half. By that time, West Chester had built a 45-0 lead.
Lamm finished the day with 13 points, converting four of West Chester's trys and going over for a try early in the first half that gave the Rams a 12-0 lead after her first conversion of the day. Waltman scored 17 points with her three trys plus one conversion.
Cheryl Johnson had a 60-meter run down the left sideline for West Chester's final try of the first half that gave the Rams a 31-0 lead at the break. Anna McGlade opened the game with a 22-meter try 10 minutes into the contest.
Maureen Rae and Megan Otto each had a try late in the game to close out the scoring at 55-0.
West Chester is back in action on Friday, April 2 when the Rams travel to LaSalle for another non-league contest.
