Men’s Golf Moves Up Four Spots On Sunday At St. James Invitational

St. James Plantation Invitational Results

SOUTHPORT, N.C.
– West Chester University moved up from seventh to finish third on Sunday at the St. James Invitational held at The Founders Club in Southport, N.C. over the weekend. The Golden Rams opened the spring portion of their schedule with their appearance in the invitational.

Indiana (Pa.) held on to its top spot and won the team title with a score of 608. California (Pa.) was second with a 647, followed by West Chester with a 653. IUP’s Gavin Smith, who shot a 75 on the first day, followed up with a 71 in the second round to win the individual title with a two-over par 146.

West Chester’s five shaved seven points off their first-round score to make the big jump four spots in the team standings. Doug Brooks and Steve Minnick were the big reason for the Golden Rams’ move. Brooks took seven strokes off his first-day total while Minnick cut off 14 strokes from a disappointing effort on Saturday. Each shot an 80 on Sunday.

Derek Glaser and Griffith Basehore were the most consistent golfers over the weekend. They each tied for 13th overall on the individual leaderboard by shooting an identical 161. Brooks tied for 27th with a 167, and Minnick was 37th with a 174. Danny Walck shot a 180 for the two-day tournament.

West Chester returns to action on March 29-30 at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational in Delaware, before hosting its first golf tournament in school history on Easter Sunday at Penn Oaks Golf Course.
