Men’s Track & Field Readies For PSAC Championships

EDINBORO, Pa.
– West Chester University’s men’s track & field team will participate in the 2010 PSAC Indoor Track & Field championships at Edinboro University February 27-28. Male athletes from 14 schools will compete for individual titles as well as the PSAC team crown. West Chester’s contingent on the men’s side consists of 16 athletes.

General admission for Saturday is $7 for adults and $2 for students. Students with a PSAC school I.D. are admitted free of charge. Fans interested in attending the championships on Saturday and Sunday can purchase a two-day pass for $12

Action begins Saturday at 1 p.m. with men’s long jump. Senior transfer Shawn Smith and junior Leighon Johnson will both look to compete for the top prize. Smith will also look to contend in the 60m and 200m finals. Johnson will also run the 60m and 200m as one of the top contenders in each event.

Then men’s distance medley relay (DMR) is set to go off at 2:15 p.m. The four-man relay will consist of Matt Langdale, Jake Perry, Kevin Selinsky, and Tim Thiry. The men’s 400m will go off at 3 p.m. Matt Houser, Craig Espenshade, and Kyle Perry will look to carry over their success and reach the final. Houser and Espenshade will also run the 200m run. The last race for the men on Saturday will be the 4x800 meter relay. The relay consists of Matt Langdale, Jake Perry, Selinsky, and Thiry.

Championship Sunday begins at 11 a.m. with men’s triple jump. Josh Bacon looks to score some points for the Golden Rams in his only event of the weekend. Then men’s mile starts at 11:30 a.m. Langdale looks finish in the top three. Langdale will also run the men’s 800m, joining him will be freshman Jake Perry.

The men’s 3000m will be held at 1:50 p.m. Langdale looks to score in this event as well. The most exciting race all weekend will be the men’s 4x400m relay, which will take place at 2:40 p.m. The relay team of Espenshade, Houser, Kyle Perry, and Thiry look to take first in the event.

Shippensburg University enters as the defending champions. In 2009, the Raiders totaled 134 points to capture first place. Lock Haven finished second with a team total of 129.
