MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Jackie Borkowski swam away with her second straight swimmer of the meet award as West Chester University’s women’s swim team claimed its fourth straight PSAC Women’s Swimming Championship trophy Sunday afternoon at Cumberland Valley High School.
West Chester picked up 756 points to win its fifth title in the last six years and eighth overall. Clarion finished second with 469 points, Shippensburg was third (397) and Kutztown fourth with 351. California (Pa.) placed fifth with 323 points and Gannon was sixth with 299. Bloomsburg was seventh with 242, Edinboro eighth with 224, Lock Haven ninth with 211 and Indiana (Pa.) was 10th with 202. East Stroudsburg was 11th with 96 points, Millersville 12th with 69 points and Mansfield 13th with 40.
West Chester's senior class graduates with a conference championship in all four years of their college career, marking the first time in school history that has happened on the women's side.
Borkowski, a 16-time All-American and reigning PSAC swimmer of the meet from a year ago, wrapped up her final conference meet with three more individual titles and three relay titles. Borkowski swam the second leg of the 400 free relay team that closed out the PSAC Championships with a winning time of 3 minutes, 26.18 seconds. She also won the 50-yard freestyle in 50.21.
Fischer won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.88. Leah Varvaro was second behind Fischer in 2:05.55.
Danielle Ierley set a meet record in the 1650 free with a winning time of 17:13.10. Kristen Montello, who played a role on three relays that all won PSAC titles, finished third behind Ierley.
West Chester returns home to train for the NCAA Division II Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships next month.
