WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Janelle Garber scored 17 points and Renata Neal dropped in 13, but it was not enough as visiting Kutztown topped the Golden Rams, 65-56, in a PSAC East women’s basketball game inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday evening.

West Chester (16-8, 6-5 PSAC East) played behind most of the game, while Kutztown (17-7, 8-3 PSAC East) used a late second-half run to put the Golden Rams away. The loss drops West Chester into third place in the league standings while strengthening Kutztown’s hold on second place and a potential home game in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.

The Golden Rams trailed by nine at the half, but opened the second half with 12-2 run to tie the game at 46-46. Janelle Garber sparked West Chester’s run by scoring five of her 17 points during the late run.

The Golden Rams briefly took the lead, 50-49, with 8:15 left when Allison Hostetter hit a jumper to give WCU its first lead of the ballgame. After West Chester eventually extended its lead to 54-49, the Golden Bears went on an 11-0 run over the next five minutes to put the game out of reach.

Hostetter added eight points and ripped down seven rebounds in the loss. Mary Kate Serratelli added eight points and five rebounds off the bench. Megan Stewart dished out five assists, and Alex Lennon blocked three shots, tying her with Neal for the team lead with 30.

Melissa McQuade recorded a double-double with a game high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chauntelle Schroeder posted 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

West Chester struggled from behind the 3-point arc, going 2-for-14 (14.3 percent). Kutztown shot 38.3 percent from the field for the game, including 35.3 percent (6 of 17) from 3-point range. The Bears swept the season series from the Golden Rams by virtue of their 76-56 victory earlier in the season. Kutztown has now beaten West Chester in the last four meetings.

The Golden Rams return to action on Saturday when they will travel to Mansfield for a 1 p.m tip-off.
