NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sam Smarkola challenged a pair of school marks while Danielle Howell hit a PSAC qualifying time to lead West Chester’s women’s effort at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Classic held inside the New York City Armory Friday night.
Smarkola finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 58.62 seconds, which is the third-fastest time at WCU and the fourth-best effort in the PSAC this winter. Howell finished 35th in the event, but her time of 1:01.98 qualified her for the PSACs. Smarkola also finished 16th in the 200m in 26.54 seconds. That is seventh at WCU all-time and eighth in the PSAC this year.

60m: Nicole Reaves - 42nd, 8.65.
200m: Melinda Wentz - 26th, 26.91.
400m: Lindsey Nygren - 39th, 1:02.22.
800m: Leigh Gumlock-Silfies - 20th, 2:28.10. Nygren - 24th, 2:30.62.
60m Hurdles: Wentz - 10th, 9.57. Katie Butler - 23rd, 10.01.
High Jump: Butler - 3rd, 1.60m.
Triple Jump: Brittany Foye - 5th, 10.90m. Miriam Hughes - 18th, 10.29m.
West Chester is off until the 2010 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held at Edinboro, Pa. Feb. 26-28.
