College Park, Md. – West Chester University’s women’s swim team posted a fourth-place showing and a pair of sixth-place efforts individually while its 400-yard freestyle relay squad placed seventh to pace the Golden Rams on the final day of the Terrapin Cup Invitational Saturday night.
The Golden Rams were competing in a field made up mostly of Division I schools, but did not back down from the step up in competition. Host Maryland was most impressive at the three-day meet set up similarly to the NCAA Championship meet in March.
Leah Varvaro placed fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2 minutes, 3.54 seconds to record West Chester’s top finish on the final day. Amelia Buckley was sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.37) and Erin Fischer was right behind Varvaro in the 200 fly (2:04.82).
Mia Barone, Kristen Montello, Fischer and Megan Bauer made up the 400 freestyle relay squad that placed seventh with a time of 3:31.00.
West Chester’s diving team will compete at the Rutgers Diving Invitational Sunday. The swim team will not be back in action again until Jan. 8 when the Golden Rams take on Maine and Johns Hopkins in a relay meet in Juno, Fla.
