KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – West Chester University seniors Mike Dell and Sam Scott have been selected to participate in the 2010 Valero Cactus Bowl, an all-star game featuring NCAA Division II senior football players, this Friday, Jan. 8 at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Valero Cactus Bowl has annually attracted some of the top talent in NCAA Division II and this year is no different. There are nine American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-Americans and 20 Daktronics All-Americans playing in this year’s game.

The Valero Cactus Bowl kicks off on Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:35 p.m. (EST) at Javelina Stadium. One of the biggest changes to this year’s game has been the addition of four more players to the roster bringing the total to 85 players this year. They went through NFL testing on Sunday and start practice today.

The game will be broadcast live on FOX College Sports Television. Live stats for the Valero Cactus Bowl can be viewed at www.cactusbowl.org. The radio broadcast of the tilt can be heard on ESPN Radio (www.espnradio.com).

Dell and Scott are two of nine PSAC representatives heading down to Kingsville, Texas this week. It marks the second straight year in which West Chester University has sent two participants to the all-star event. Last January, Mike Washington and Kennis Jones each made the trip. The West beat the East, 28-27, in that contest. Jones was the East squad’s starting center along the offensive line.

Dell, a former PSAC defensive player of the year (2008), led the Golden Rams in tackles with 72. He posted 7.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks and forced three fumbles. Additionally, the two-time, first-team all-leaguer intercepted a pass, broke up another pass and recorded six QB hurries. He was named the PSAC East defensive player of the week the next-to-last week of the season after leading West Chester to a 30-14 win over 10th-ranked Bloomsburg.

Scott was third on the team in tackles with 62 stops. He led the conference with 16.5 tackles for a loss and posted a team-high 7.5 sacks. He forced two fumbles, intercepted a pass and blocked two kicks on the year. He was also credited with five QB hurries. Scott ranked 38th in the NCAA in sacks per game (0.68) and tied for 18th nationally in tackles for a loss per game (1.55).

The Cactus Bowl was originally known as the Snow Bowl and was played in Fargo, North Dakota from 1994 through 2000. Starting in 2001, the Snow Bowl was renamed the Cactus Bowl and has been played in Kingsville, Texas. There have been over 100 players drafted into the NFL who played in the Cactus Bowl. All net profits from the Cactus Bowl are donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
