WEST CHESTER, Pa. – With national letter of intent signing day just around the corner, West Chester University released its 2010 football schedule. Coming off a 7-4 campaign in which the Golden Rams walked away with its third straight ECAC Division II “Team of the Year” award, West Chester begins preparation for its 89th gridiron season.

The 11-game schedule to be played over 73 days this fall features five home games and six road tilts. The season opener kicks off at Delaware Stadium against inter-divisional regional rival University of Delaware on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.

“I think it will be good to play Delaware first,” head coach Bill Zwaan said. “I think our players will really look forward to going down there right off the bat, and they will be excited.”

The home opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 11 against PSAC West foe Edinboro at John A. Farrell Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. as West Chester University pays tribute to former quarterback Michael Horrocks, who was a co-pilot of the second plane that crashed into the World Trade Center towers, on the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the United States.

“That is going to be a very special day,” Zwaan said. “Not only for our current players, but for the former players and all of the people that did an outstanding job raising a lot of money to put together this tribute.”

The month of September will close with consecutive road games at Slippery Rock (Sept. 18) and at East Stroudsburg (Sept. 25) for the PSAC East opener. October opens with three straight home contests, including C.W. Post on Oct. 2 at 2 p.m., which will be Homecoming at West Chester University. Defending PSAC Champion Shippensburg pays a visit the following weekend (Oct. 9) at 1 p.m. before Cheyney comes calling on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. That will be Family Weekend at the university.

West Chester will travel to Bloomsburg on Oct. 23 and to Kutztown on Oct. 30 to close out the second month of the season. Millersville visits on Sat., Nov. 6 for Senior Day with the Golden Rams. The final weekend of the schedule sees West Chester traveling to Indiana (Pa.) unless IUP or the Rams qualify for the PSAC Championship Game. In either case, the opponent and location of the game may change.

Road contests start times have not been determined by the home team as of the release of this schedule. Those times will be determined at a later date.
