Women's Swimming Holds Off Johns Hopkins, 218.5-137.5

TRENTON, N.J.
– Jackie Borkowski won two more individual events to lead West Chester University’s women’s swimming & diving team to an easy 218.5-137.5 victory over Johns Hopkins University at The College of New Jersey Saturday afternoon.

WCU's women looked fresh, riding wins by Borkowski in the 1650-yard freestyle (17 minutes, 33.66 seconds) and the 50 free (24.07). That pair of wins ran Borkowski’s individual total of victories on the weekend to four.

Laura Graesser enjoyed her best meet for WCU, going 4:43.59 in the 400 individual medley and 2:13.09 in the 200 IM. Kristen Montello enjoyed her best relay split of 1:54.90 in the 200 free, as well as her best 100 free winning time in 53.83. Leah Varvaro went a non-championship meet best in the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.51 and a lifetime best 2:11.50 200 butterfly.

But the swimmer of the meet proved to be Erin Fischer, who improved her best times in the 100 fly (57.18), the 200 IM (2:11.23), and the 200 fly (2:07.88), winning all three events.

The 400 medley relay team consisting of Dani Scott, Rachael Gale, Jillian Murphy and Kristen Montello) also placed first with a time of 4:03.16.

West Chester travels to Southern Connecticut State next Saturday for a non-league meet against the Division II power Owls.
