TRENTON, N.J. – West Chester University ‘s men’s swimming & diving squad dropped a pair of dual meets to Division III powers Johns Hopkins University, 202-162, and host The College of New Jersey, 203-167, on the final day of the two-day meet.

The Golden Rams men showed signs of the effects of some of the rigorous training between semesters. Although the Rams improved on Saturday after a lackluster Friday evening session, the extra effort was not enough to catch either strong Division III team.

Highlights included Kenny McCormick winning the 400-yard individual medley on Friday and cracking the top 10 WCU times ever in the event with his time of  4 minutes, 9.42 seconds. Calvin Starosta posted a lifetime best time in the 100 backstroke with a 53.06. David Smoker's lifetime best of 1:46.67 relay split in the 200 freestyle, and Brendan Fanslau's 1:44.43 in the 200 free, were also exceptional performances for West Chester.

McCormick registered a second-place finish in the 200 IM (1:57.70) and a third-place showing in the 200 butterfly (1:59.19). Smoker was second in the 200 fly, just ahead of McCormick, with a time of 1:56.51 while Brendan Fanslau was runner-up in the 50 free (21.80). Max Bernardes was the only other runner-up for the Golden Rams, placing second in the 1650 free with a time of 16:51.37

West Chester travels to Southern Connecticut State next Saturday for a non-league meet against the Division II power Owls.
