2009 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships - Day Two Results
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester’s women’s track & field squad is currently 10th in the team standings after day two at the 2009 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium on the campus of Millersville University Friday afternoon.
West Chester has eight points after the first full day of competition. Slippery Rock is first in the team standings with 53 points. Lock Haven is second with 45. Indiana (Pa.) is third with 36.5 points.
The only two scorers for the Golden Rams on Friday were Melinda Wentz and Kamber Schrann. Wentz finished fourth in the heptathlon competition with 4,390 points. IUP’s Maddy Outman won the event with 4,876 points. Schrann placed sixth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 8 inches.
Both Maria Baker and Katie Butler qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles. Baker finished sixth overall in the prelims with a time of 15.1 seconds while Butler was seventh overall in 15.25.
The Golden Rams’ 4x100m relay team, consisting of Wentz, Sam Smarkola, Mackenzie Lauro and Brittany Foye, qualified sixth in prelims with a time of 48.96. They advance to the finals as well. Smarkola nearly missed qualifying individually in the 100m dash, placing ninth just 100ths of a second out of a top-eight qualifying place.
Liz Jackson just missed moving on in the shot put with a ninth-place showing. She put the shot 38 feet, 1 ¼ inches.
Day three of the PSAC Championships will take place on Saturday at Millersville University’s Biemesderfer Stadium.
