No. 6 West Chester Left Out Of NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For just the second time since the NCAA sanctioned a Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament, the West Chester University Golden Rams will not be participating in the postseason.
West Chester (14-3), the defending national champions, were not one of the three teams from the South Region to be selected for the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse championships. Top-seed and No. 1-ranked Limestone earned a bye in the first round into the national semifinals. PSAC rivals Lock Haven and Mercyhurst will do battle in the first round of the tournament on May 9 in Lock Haven.
It marks just the second time since the NCAA started a Division II tournament in 2001 that the Golden Rams have failed to qualify -- the only other time coming in 2003. Ironically, that followed West Chester's 2002 national championship.
West Chester's run of NCAA championship game appearances will come to an end at five straight.
