CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior midfielder Courtney Whiting was named first team All-America by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) it was announced this week. West Chester also put two more seniors on the second team as Mary Beth Green and Gina DiDomenicis were also honored.
Whiting becomes the fourth different West Chester Golden Ram in the last three years to earn first team All-America honors. She was a second team pick last season when the Rams won the national championship.
Whiting led West Chester (14-3) to another undefeated season in league play and a spot in the conference championship game. She tied Jackie Baker for the team lead in goals scored this spring with 46 while placing third overall in the scoring with 59 points. Whiting potted five game-winning goals and ranked second on the team with 33 caused turnovers. The Golden Rams held a 285-149 advantage in draw controls thanks to the center-mid’s faceoff skills. Whiting grabbed 45 ground balls and led the squad with 74 draw controls.
DiDomenicis, a second teamer last spring as well, was the calm in the storm for the sixth-ranked Golden Rams (14-3) this season. She ranked second on the team in ground balls (47) and draw controls (40) while listing tied for third in caused turnovers (27). The four-time PSAC all-leaguer also finished eighth on the team in scoring with 18 goals and 22 points in her final season.
Green, earning her second straight second team All-America nod, backstopped West Chester to its third straight undefeated league campaign as the Golden Rams posted a perfect 10-0 mark in the newly formed Eastern Division of the PSAC. Green registered a .561 save percentage and a 7.11 goals-against average, both of which ranked second nationally. She was also named to the PSAC East’s first team all-league squad.
All three All-America honorees were first team All-South Region picks by the IWLCA, which was released early last week.
