West Chester Women Qualify 14 For PSACs

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– West Chester University witnessed 14 of its women’s track & field participants hit qualifying standards at the WCU Last Chance Qualifier at John A. Farrell Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Sam Smarkola finished fourth in both the 100m (13.11 seconds) and the 200m (26.90). Maria Baker placed fifth behind Smarkola in the 100m (13.18).

Melinda Wentz won the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 49.35. That time is seventh in the PSAC this year. Baker placed third in that event with a PSAC-qualifying time of 1:07.72. Other winners on the afternoon included Katie Butler in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 inches, and Liz Jackson taking the shot put competition with a distance of 38-6 ¼.

Butler was runner up in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.90. Jackson was fourth in the discus (118-9). Noreen Seymour placed third in front of Jackson in the discus (128-7) and was second in the hammer throw (126-3). Seymour also placed second in the shot put behind Jackson with a distance of 35-4 ¾.

Brittany Foye was second in the triple jump (35-6 ½) and third in the long jump (16-11 ¼).

Jess DeVito placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:25.28. Lyndsey Ratasiewicz was runner-up in the 3000m in 10:25.20. Kamber Schrann was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9-3.

Meanwhile the 4x100m relay team was second in 49.35 seconds. The foursome of Mackenzie Lauro, Smarkola, Foye and Wentz hit a season best and the fourth-fastest time in the conference with that effort.
