Heptathlon Results
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Melinda Wentz and Lyndsey Ratasiewicz all finished first while West Chester University took runner-up honors in six other events on a rain-soaked afternoon inside John A. Farrell Stadium Saturday at the WCU Invitational.
Wentz accumulated 4,121 points in the heptathlon, a personal best, while recording the second-best effort in the PSAC this spring. That performance was good for first place at Farrell Stadium.
Lyndsey Ratasiewicz crossed the finish line first in the 3000m race with a time of 10 minutes, 51.53 seconds despite the high winds and constant rain battering Southeastern PA. She also finished third in the 800m run in 2:25.03. Mary Gawbill was sixth in that event in 2:29.95.
Both C.J. Jacob and Sam Smarkola posted a pair of runner-up performances as well. Jacob finished second in the 100m high hurdles with a time of 15.43 seconds, which is the eighth-best time of season in the conference. Katie Butler placed fourth in 15.82. Smarkola was second in both the 100m, and 200m dashes. She recorded a time of 12.89 in the 100m and 26.9 in the 200m. Maria Baker was fourth in the 200m (27.5).
Jacob was also runner-up in the long jump, leaping 16 feet, 3 ¾ inches. Foye placed sixth with a distance of 15-0 ¾. Butler registered a second-place effort in the high jump (5-1 ¾). Foye finished second in the triple jump with leap of 34-0 ¼, Dana Dietrich was third (33-4) and Jenna Lenich sixth (31-8 ½).
Laura Carnes recorded the Golden Rams’ only other second-place showing, placing second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13:14.26.
In the throwing events, Liz Jackson and Noreen Seymour highlighted West Chester’s Saturday. Jackson was fourth in the shot put (36-9) while Seymour was seventh (35-0 ½). Seymour also placed fifth in the discus (117-6) and sixth in the hammer (122-4). Jackson was officially seventh in the hammer with the same distance as Seymour. She finished sixth in the discus behind Seymour with a toss of 117-4.
West Chester’s women will be back in action next weekend when the Golden Rams travel to the Widener Invitational.
