HOUSTON, Texas – West Chester University picked up its lone All-America certificate in the final event of the night as its men’s swimming & diving team placed 10th in the final standings of the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships held at the University of Houston as part of the DII Winter Sports Festival.
West Chester amassed 172 points to finish in the top 10 at nationals. Drury’s men overcame Wayne State (Mich.) on the final day to take home the NCAA team title and complete a sweep of the top spots with its women’s program, which also won the team title.
Matt Golebiewski, Kenny McCormick, Rod King and Brendan Fanslau made up the 400-yard medley relay team that finished sixth in the final event of the NCAA Championships on Saturday night. They touched the wall in 2:59.84.
Golebiewski placed 11th overall in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.48 seconds that put him third in the consolation finals. Max Bernardes placed 10th overall in the 1650 free (15:39.10) and Peter Madueno was 14th in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.83).
