Golebiewski Earns All-America In 200 Free

HOUSTON, Texas
– Senior Matt Golebiewski brought home the school’s second All-America citation on Thursday to lead West Chester University’s men’s effort at the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships taking place at the DII Winter Festival hosted by University of Houston.

West Chester slipped to 11th place in the team standings with 75 points after two days. Wayne State (Mich.) continues to lead the field with 232.5 points after 20 events.

Golebiewski placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:37.75.

Max Bernardes, who claimed West Chester’s only other All-America plaudit yesterday in the 1000 free, finished 14th in the 400 Individual Medley. The Golden Rams’ 200 free relay also placed 10th overall, taking second in the consolation finals with a time of 1:22.15.

The championships continue on Friday with the finals of the 500 free, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 fly, the 800 free relay and the 1-meter diving competition set to be contested.
