West Chester Women Qualify Two Individuals And Two Relays For Nationals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – West Chester University’s women’s swimming team qualified two individuals and two relays for nationals on day two at the Cavalier Invitational at the Aquatics and Fitness Center Friday night.

The meet features a championship-style format with prelims for each event beginning at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m. Live results will be linked on www.wcupagoldenrams.com as well as Virginia’s official athletic web site.

Jackie Borkowski, who already had qualified for the NCAAs in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday, will also be swimming the 100 backstroke after clocking a qualifying time of 56.93 seconds. Borkowksi also led off each relay that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships next March.

Borkowski joined forces with Rachael Gale, Erin Fischer and Kristen Montello in the 200 medley relay to clock a time of 1:46.20. The 800 free relay foursome of Borkowski, Montello, Megan Bauer and Danielle Ierley timed out in 7:37.51 to qualify for nationals.

Fischer was the only other automatic qualifier with a time of 56.38 in the 100 butterfly, which put her second overall at the Invitational. Jillian Murphy hit a ‘B’ qualifying time in the 100 fly, finishing seventh in 57.46 seconds.

Joining the Golden Rams and host Virginia at the UVA Invitational this weekend will be the Kansas women, and both the men's and women's teams from Washington and Lee and American University.
