PRINCETON, N.J.
– West Chester University’s women’s track & field squad opened its indoor season Friday night with a few impressive performances at the New Year’s Invitational hosted by Princeton University inside Jadwyn Gymnasium.

Attending the invitational along with West Chester are Adelphi, Monmouth, Rider, Rutgers, St. Joseph's, St. Peter's, The College of New Jersey and host Princeton.

West Chester qualified three different athletes in three different events Friday evening. Brittany Foye, Katie Butler and C.J. Jacob all qualified in three different events for the Golden Rams.

Butler’s conversion time of 9.23 seconds in the prelims of the 60m hurdles at Princeton tied teammate Melinda Wentz for 12th place overall. Wentz’s conversion time was 9.11. Both are headed to the PSAC Indoor Championships in February. Jacob equaled Wentz’s 9.11 and will join her two teammates at the conference meet.

Jacob will also be entered in both the long jump, after recording a 16 feet, 5 inch leap at Princeton. Butler qualified in the high jump, clearing 5-3.

Foye jumped 16-3 ¼ in the long jump and 35-6 ¾ in the triple jump to qualify for the PSACs in both events. Her triple jump distance is the second-best effort in the conference after the first weekend of competition. Nicole Reaves leaped 16-4 ¼ in the long jump, and Dana Dietrich posted a 34-4 distance in the triple jump to qualify for the conference meet.

Liz Jackson was also a double-qualifier in both the weight throw (45-1) and the shot put (40-3 ½).

The 4x400m relay squad posted the second-best time in the PSAC so far this year, placing fourth overall at Princeton in 4:05.74.

Sam Smarkola also registered the top time in the PSAC in the 60m dash prelims with a conversion time of 7.54 seconds.

West Chester will be back in action on Jan. 22 at Ursinus and then on Jan. 23 at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University.
