WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Three members of the West Chester women’s soccer team have been named to the ECAC Division II All-Star team, including freshman goal keeper Lyndsie Bernardini, who was also named the 2009 ECAC Division II Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year. Joining Bernardini on the all-star squad are junior forward Sarah Oswald and junior defender Cindi Nickles.
Bernardini finished the season with a .923 save percentage and 0.23 goals against average. She started all 22 games for the Golden Rams, allowing only five goals against on the year. Bernardini ran her record to 19-2-1, including 15 shutouts. Bernardini’s also set a West Chester record with 1,238 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, a mark that ranks second all-time in NCAA history.
Sarah Oswald’s ten goals, 36 points, 99 shots, and eight game-winners were all team-highs. Her 16 assists led the PSAC conference. In her three years at West Chester, Oswald has 104 points (41g 22a), placing her 3rd all-time in scoring at the university.
Cindi Nickles was a rock on defense for the Golden Rams in 2009. She started all 22 games on defense for West Chester, recording one assist. Her solid defensive play contributed to a defense that allowed just five goals all season.
Forward Vanessa Moreira of Dowling College was named the 2009 ECAC Division II Offensive Player of the Year.
